Dr. Phillis I. Sheppard will moderate this panel of distinguished scholars in medicine, health, society, law, and policy to critically examine the humanitarian implications of COVID-19 and its impact on communities of color in light of the myriad ways that economic policy and political expediency impact hospital resources and foreign relations in shaping the discourse on the pandemic and exposing the motives and intent of government, which continue to perpetuate a systemwide, prolonged neglect of racialized minorities and elderly citizens. This roundtable will broadcast live on Zoom and Facebook with opportunity for Q & A.

COVID-19 requires a multigenerational response to understanding how the issues of health disparities in the elderly population, among black and brown people, and with respect to “essential workers,” greatly impacts the lives of all Americans. This multigenerational panel, comprised of students, clergy, and elder will discuss Medical Apartheid contextually.

Dr. Lloyda Williamson, Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Meharry Medical School will respond to the authors and give remarks from her considerable expertise.
